WE SING GOES BACK TO THE 80s

Pull out the legwarmers and plump up the shoulder pads as the Wii’s best-selling singing series celebrates the most memorable decade of music 3rd May 2012: The 80s will be remembered for many things – big hair, fluorescent socks and Cabbage Patch Kids, to name but three – but perhaps its most famous export is the music.

Fans of the decade which gave us power ballads, soft rock and some of the most memorable songs ever written are in for a treat this October, as Nordic Games Publishing announces We Sing 80s.

We Sing 80s will feature 30 nostalgic favourites, covering the unforgettable decade’s cult hits and dazzling disco tracks, all of which include the original videos. Each song has its own difficulty rating and can be played in short or full length song modes.

“This addition to the We Sing collection will replicate everything that the 80s was adored for,” says Nik Blower, Sales and Marketing Director, Nordic Games. “The game’s customisable interface means that it will be packed full of flamboyance, big hair and disco colours as we continue to provide fans and new friends of the series with a fresh singing experience.”

Fun for all the family, the singing series will continue to support up to four players together simultaneously using four separate microphones in any of the eight multiplayer modes.

Party mode includes We Sing, Versus, Group Battle, Pass The Mic, First to X, Marathon, Blind and Expert. There’s also Solo mode, which can also be played in Blind and Expert mode. Karaoke mode strips the track of vocals to really challenge players, or those that fancy an authentic karaoke experience.

Other features include Singing Lessons to help singers fine tune their voices and a Jukebox to queue up songs like their own personal music channel.

In-game awards come from playing either single or multiplayer modes, adding further depth and replay value to We Sing 80s. Plus, once a track has been sung, players can replay performances and add cool effects to their voice.

More points come thanks to Star Notes which provides extra points for hitting hard notes and Player Statistics give a detailed breakdown on performance on notes hit and missed with a comment on your performance at the end.

Nordic Games save the best for last as Cyndi Lauper, The Killers and Florence + The Machine complete the prestigious line up of pop superstarsThursday 8th March: Nordic Games has today unveiled the final songs to be added to the We Sing Pop! tracklist, available exclusively on the Wii on the 23rd March 2012.

In collaboration with Spotify, all 30 of these chart topping hits can now be found exclusively on the We Sing Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/WeSingGame

So without further ado we can now reveal that the final line up of tracks will include:
Girls Just Want to Have Fun, the first hit record to come from Cyndi Lauper. Released in 1983, it is a signature song of the 1980s and is bound to be a massive hit with girls playing We Sing Pop! together with four microphones. Originally written for a man, Cyndi Lauper changed the lyrics slightly to convey female solidarity in a playful way.

Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine was the second single to be released from their debut album Lungs. The song is featured on NMEs 2011 Top 150 on the last 15 years, beginning with an intricate acoustic intro and building to a crescendo with the power of Florence Welsh’s voice.

Kelis’ best charting single to date is Milkshake, taken from the album Tasty. The song peaked in the top three in the charts across the UK and US and was named Best Single by the Observer in 2004. Written and produced by the Neptunes, the song is heavily influenced by their distinctive electronic funk sounds which the duo is known for.

The empowering Don’t Hold Your Breath by Nicole Scherzinger was released in August 2011, and is the second single from her debut studio album with the Pussycat Dolls, Killer Love. The pop song tells the story of the female protagonist who realises her relationship is over and has made the decision never to go back. It was her first solo single to go into the UK charts at number one.

Written by The Killers, When You Were Young peaked in the charts at number two in October 2006. It was one of their most successful songs to date and was the lead single on their second album Sam’s Town. It has been reported that the song was influenced by Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run.

American girl group, the Pussycat Dolls released When I Grow Up in May 2008 exploring the desire to become famous. It is said to be the stand out track on the album Doll Domination, hitting the top five in UK, Ireland, France, Australia and peaked at number nine in the US on the Billboard 100 chart.

I’m Your Man by iconic 80s duo Wham! will make for the perfect duet on We Sing Pop! The 1985 hit went straight in at number one and was a top five track in the US charts. Six months after the track was released Wham! then announced their split.

Featured as the Weekend Anthem on BBC Radio 1 in March 2011, Unorthodox is the final single to be added to the tracklist. The song by Wretch 32 featuring Example samples the 1989 smash hit Fools Gold by The Stone Roses and reached number two in the charts making it Wretch’s most successful song to date.

“We Sing Pop! boasts 30 of the best Pop songs from the 60s right up until now – we’ve continued our theme of providing something for everyone,” says Nik Blower, Sales and Marketing Director, Nordic Games. “These pop songs compliment a four player game perfectly as they are real crowd pleasers that make you all want to get up and sing together.”

We Sing Pop! will be released on March 23rd 2012, exclusively for Nintendo Wii.

Nordic Games unveils a host of number ones Thursday 23rd February 2012: The We Sing Pop! countdown, in collaboration with Spotify, continues as the next eight songs on the poptastic 30 strong tracklist are revealed through the We Sing game Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/WeSingGame

Bruno Mars, this year’s winner of the International Male Solo Artist BRIT Award, released Just the Way You Are in September 2010. It is a Grammy award winning track and was the singer’s second single in the UK that went straight in at number one for a week and then re-entered the charts in October in the top spot for a further three weeks.

Big Girls Don’t Cry, taken from Fergie’s debut solo album The Duchess, sold 3,080,000 copies and became her third number one track to top the Billboard 100 in America. Produced by her fellow band member from the Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am, the song is a three times platinum selling single. It was the 8th most successful song of the 2000s.

One of the best selling singles of all time, Lady Gaga first teased the world with Born This Way at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards but the song wasn’t officially released until February 2011. It was the lead single on her second studio album also titled Born This Way. On release it was the fastest selling single on iTunes, selling 1 million copies in five days.

I’m Yours by Jason Mraz spent an incredible 76 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and now holds the record for a song that has spent the most time in the charts. Originally released on the limited edition EP titled Extra Credit in 2004, it was then re-released on their album We Sing We Dance We Steal Things.

The 80’s influenced track, Fireflies, by Owl City, is a song about fireflies, summer and insomnia but with a child-like twist on the lyrics. The song topped the charts in a number of countries including the UK, US, Australia and Finland.

The toe-tapping I Don’t Feel Like Dancing by Scissor Sisters spent 27 weeks in the Official UK Top 40. Written by the one and only Elton John, it was the bands first UK number one and remains their most recognisable song.

Vanilla Ice’s, Ice Ice Baby is always a hit on a karaoke tracklist and 23 years later this remains Ice’s biggest selling track. It was the first single in its genre to be featured in the Billboard Top 100 and helped to introduce Hip Hop to a more mainstream audience.

The 14th track to be revealed is Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around, released in 2004 after it was featured in the highly popular Hugh Grant film Four Weddings and a Funeral. It spent two weeks at the top of the UK singles chart and then a further 35 weeks in the top 40. By 2011 the song sold 1,298,131 retail copies in the UK.

“From these eight tracks you can truly grasp how strong We Sing Pop’s full tracklist is going to be,” says Nik Blower, Sales and Marketing Director for Nordic Games. “When choosing the tracklist we looked into what pop songs performed strongest in the charts and these are a selection of those that have had long running success.”

We Sing Pop! will be released on March 23rd 2012, exclusively for Nintendo Wii. More songs will be unveiled next week. Check out the playlist to date at http://www.facebook.com/WeSingGame

We Sing Pop! Unveils first seven tracks on Facebook.Thursday 16th February 2012: Tinie Tempah joins forces with Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Adele and Hanson, as first tracks from We Sing Pop! are unveiled – with guest appearances from Jennifer Love Hewitt and Mickey Rourke.

The official top 30 countdown has begun, as Nordic Games today announces the first seven tracks which will feature on the forthcoming game We Sing Pop!, available exclusively on Nintendo Wii from March 23rd 2012.

Those desperate to get some early practice in can listen to the first seven songs on the game’s Facebook page now (http://www.facebook.com/WeSingGame), thanks to collaboration with Spotify.

Adele’s Rolling in the Deep, released in November 2010, went to number one in 11 countries including America – the singer’s first chart topper in the States. A dark bluesy-disco tune, it recounts the raw emotion of a spurned lover and is already one of the most-sung songs in karaoke establishments up and down the country.

A UK number one for four weeks, and racking up sales close to 900,000, Enrique Iglesias’s Hero is the 17th best selling song of the 2000s. The video – featured in full in We Sing Pop! will see Jennifer Love Hewitt and Mickey Rourke in the homes of Wii owners, making the song as easy on the eyes as it is the ears.

Released in 1997, MMMBop, by Hanson, is one of the most memorable songs of that decade – and one that endures to this day. Its breezy verse and contagious chorus bagged it number ones in the UK and US, among many others.

Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance sold 9.7 million copies worldwide in just over a year, receiving a Grammy Award in the process. The first single release from Gaga’s all-conquering The Fame Monster album, it remains one of her most recognisable hits – and certain to be a favourite in We Sing Pop!

Released in 2003, Outkast’s Hey Ya still fills the dancefloors week in, week out. A US Billboard Hot 100 number one for nine weeks, it remains the duo’s biggest hit to date.

Rhianna’s Don’t Stop The Music, released in 2007, has become one of the artist’s most celebrated songs, and a staple of her live tours since. The song’s pulsating backing track, infectious chorus and more than a nod to Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Starting Something, made it a worldwide smash, reaching triple-Platinum status in the US.

The last song to be confirmed today is probably the one which rings out most frequently in pubs up and down the land. Written In The Stars by Tinie Tempah ft Eric Turner is currently used by Sky Sports for its Premier League broadcasts. A UK number one in October 2010, its popularity continues to grow globally – with the New York Giants picking it as their entrance music for last week’s Superbowl.

“Despite the fact we’re only releasing seven tracks from our 30-strong tracklist, you can already see this is a real statement of intent for We Sing Pop!” says Nik Blower, Sales and Marketing Director, Nordic Games. “The entire tracklist oozes quality – and with hits from the 60s right up to last year, there is something for everyone.”

We Sing Pop! will be released on March 23rd 2012, exclusively for Nintendo Wii. Seven more songs will be unveiled next week. Check out the playlist to date at http://www.facebook.com/WeSingGame
